YEC-bible study winter break

Dear YEC attendees,
let me remind you that the YEC will go through winter break during the month of March. However, a series of interesting theme discussions will be held throughout the recessed weeks. Time and place? 8:30-9:30 as usual in the classroom 310. This routine will bring together all members of the adult Sunday school and provide supplementary biblical knowledge; for example, there might have been something important about the bible itself that we did not talk about in class. It's going to be productive as well as beneficial. So, why don't you come and see?
Our new term is scheduled to begin on April 1st, and let's hope to see new faces then. As far as the reading material, we'll keep going with our current book. But I do have something new stored for you or... should I say someone new--Amanda will be taking over some parts of our bible study, and I'm sure she will be that new blood to revitalize our group. Perhaps some of you are not yet acquainted with her. Amanda actually spent some time abroad, and she's currently teaching English at Global Village (I'm not sure whether that's the correct name of the institution). Different people have different styles and gifts, and that's definitely what I can't wait to see in the YEC. Anyway, if you happen to know someone interested in English bible study, just bring them along so that we can share the good news with more people.
See you next time.

YEC bible study--real time status

YEC fellows,
what a delight for us to share the company of Emily and her husband in class; so let's thank God for bringing more new friends to us. And it's also a thrill to some people working as hard as they can to read the bible so as to gather more and more stories. This will certainly lead to the understanding of the "big picture" as well as the will of God. We had a great time having our discussion over Abram and his call from God; since this came to be the historical background for the Middle East conflicts we see nowadays. Thankfully we don't have to hurry in order to finish up unit 7; but to be honest we've been in the middle of this for quite a time. So hopefully we get to work it out as soon as possible.
BTW, let me remind you that the YEC will come to a recess in March (as usual) only to resume in April. However, that doesn't mean you are not coming to church for a whole month because the Sunday School will hold a series of interesting lectures on the four Sundays. So come and see. Another issue is our class time for the next semester. According to our church weekly (bulletin), our schedule was temporarily changed to 9:30-10:30, this was to allow easier management by the administration. Anyway, it will be subject to further change after we settle the final decision as soon as we start again in March. Chances are that we put it from 8:50-9:50 or something similar.
We'll meet again on this coming Sunday (2/26) despite some guys will be out of town. If you have any opinion, please speak up either in class or by mail; we'll try to arrange the time as close as we can get. Until next time. Emmanuel (God is with us)

YEC Bible Study--New friends arriving

Hello my fellows,
one thing I enjoy the most is the introduction of new friends of the YEC. Today Paula Ho showed up along with Irlene, and since we didn't get to know each other all I know about her is that she's preparing for some kind of English proficiency test. Let's hope she has further interaction with the rest of us in class.
Other two new comers are Emily and her husband. They are due to show up on 2/19 but I've been confirmed of their future attendance already. I'm thrilled about new people joining us and I'm sure the enthusiasm and passion of our classmates will act as a great welcome to our guests.
As far as out class schedule, last time we checked again we came to the conclusion of 8:50-9:50 from March on. So remember, we are still 3 weeks away. If you happen to know someone interested in our class just bring them up at the right time. God be with you.

YEC: Welcome Esther Lin

My friends of the YEC,
today we had the pleasure of having the first new friend among us in 2012. Esther Lin is 71 years old and she's back in Taiwan to visit her relatives for the Chinese new year holidays. Something that strikes me is that despite her age she's attending community college in California. And that reminds me of the old saying that goes "learn as you live", which is a superb living sample for all of us. In addition, she's so committed to serve God that even at this age she's still taking piano lessons in order to accompany church services. I'm sure that her energetic and positive spirit will much more than fascinate or even inspire anyone around. But sadly, she'll stay for as long as 1/25, and after that she's flying back to the US. Esther promised to return to the YEC as soon as she' back in Taiwan again. So those of you who did not show up for quite a while should really make an effort to return to the YEC lest you should miss the chance to meet extraordinary people like Esther.
Apart from her, Joe (So chu-teng) is back in Taiwan too. Some fellows may know him well while some newcomers may not. As a matter of fact, he and Cindy were the "founders of the YEC", the ones who came up with the idea of setting up an English bible study. And in time, their vision and scope for the future concerning English gospel grew from a mere seed into a twig. Let's work together to let that twig become a tree with deep roots in the community, catering to the needs of people for language learning and faith.
Another issue I'd like to communicate is now that next Sunday will be our traditional New Year eve, and undoubtedly many of us will be kind of busy; we're taking a break only to meet again on 1/29. So happy year of the dragon with anticipation.
Last but not least, I'm putting forward a survey regarding the potential  time change of the YEC. Since the church will undergo a shift in the time of Sunday services in March; I was wondering if we're doing the same, too. Actually the Mandarin Chinese service will start at 11:00 from then on. On one hand, we don't want to get up too early; but on the other hand, we want to leave some time for after-class discussion or interaction, which is something most of us enjoy. So the verdict is 9:00~10:00. We get an extra half an hour to get ourselves ready for class and on top of that we have another hour (before Sunday service starts) for further discussion or even plain talk. Any suggestion or opinion is welcome. Just bring it up on facebook or during class. In any case there's still one month before we get on our way.
Well, I think it's a long English e-mail for most of you to read; and I'll leave you right here. Happy holidays. May God's glory shine upon you.
