Unit 1 & 2

Hi fellows of the YEC,we've started the YEC meetings again in April, and it's nice to see people getting back to work. Those who didn't show up for quite a while should make an effort to make it back in order to keep your english ability at your best. There goes attached the two lessons we've started so far. Next time we'll proceed with lesson two; to be precise, we're gonna do english explanation of the vocabulary in red. So, there's quite a lot to do with your english-english dictionary. Keep forging ahead and you'll find yourself at the peak of your language skill! Have a nice reading guys.

Unit 1—The lost sheep
Matthew 18: 12-14
12"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.
John 10: 11-15
11"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Proverbs 18:10
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

Unit 2—The Rich Fool
The Parable of the Rich Fool Luke 12:13~21
13Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
14Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '
20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'
21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."
Further studies: Treasures in Heaven Matthew 6:19~24
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

speeches in March

Dear folks of the YEC,

Our English bible study class will break for a recess in March but in its place will be a series of interesting biblical subjects, so welcome all those who want to check it out. The speeches will take place at the same time (Sunday morning 8:30~9:30) in classroom 310.

You won't be disappointed if you can make it to the collective class. Also, three new friends came along to the YEC, they were Julie (energetic and eager to take part in our discussions, pretty good English, too), Super (working for an publicity company and is in search of new challenges in English learning), and Obely (I hope the name is correctly spelt. He's currently working for a sort of electronic comapny).

I hope to see more new people joining since the YEC is an open source, free and available for everyone who shares the passion of both English learning and bible study. Therefore, if someone around is looking for a place to practice, bring him/ her up.

God Bless.

YEC fellows back to work

Hi fellows,
after the lunar new year the YEC is coming back again, but may i remind you that we'll break for a recess in March (routine schedule) to make room for a collective joint adult sunday school program which will take the whole month. On this sunday (2/21) we'll proceed with lesson 30, the last of our book, and since the script is kinda short it's gonna take us almost no time to get through. Hopefully on 2/28 we get to see another interesting film on bible documentary. Attached is the lesson for everyone to get started right away. Enjoy your reading and happy holidays!

YEC (Youth English bible study Class) 簡介

Welcome to the YEC
(Youth English bible study Class).
Sign up right now!
If you’re looking for a place to practice spoken English in Kaohsiung, then this is the right spot, and it’s free of charge. We meet every Sunday morning 8:30~9:30 at Shin-shin church. Fellows joining this class range from school students to senior citizens!
Worried about differences in level? Don’t even think about it, because flexibility is the main feature here. From beginners all the way to advanced learners we have them all. You can finish our weekly discussions in either English or Chinese (or a combination of both if you will). No classroom rules are imposed except for punctuality and cooperation during class; therefore a guaranteed relaxed atmosphere is forecast.
The material provided will create a platform on which to practice reading as well as speaking, while oral discussions and assignments will give you an opportunity to hone your skills in listening and writing respectively. In other words, all four aspects of language will be more or less applied in this class. Since this is a bible study class, the reading passage will derive directly from the NIV version of the bible. A printed copy of the passage will be provided for everyone attending the class. In addition, the reading material will also be sent through e-mail a week prior to discussion, so that hardworking pals will always have something to work on right away.
The aims and interests of the class can be classified as language practice, literature savoring and gospel. People attending this class can choose among one, some or all of the above. No biblical knowledge background is required, since you’ll acquire some of it as the class progresses. In any case, answering questions during class will be mainly based on reading comprehension and pure personal opinion.
As for the teaching staff, like any Sunday school class of the church, two teachers are assigned to carry it out. Both of whom are licensed and experienced English teachers ready to tackle any problem that all ESL (English as a Second Language) learners encounter. More importantly, it is devotion and enthusiasm that will certainly add to their current professional qualification to profit all YEC attendees.
If there is some other information you’d like to know, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Movie Invitation for everyone

After many weeks of hard work on Lesson 28, we finally approached the end of it. Like I said previously, we'll watch an interesting documentary (film) to learn more bible knowledge. Therefore, those who didn't show up for quite a long time may grasp this chance to make a comeback; and by the way, get ready for the two discussion questions on page 139 cuz that's what we'll do before the movie.
Another novelty in the YEC is our singing time "sponsored by" Wendy, our enthusiastic new friend who offered to lead us all into the world of English himns. From now on, in addition to reading and speaking English, we have singing as well. And who's Wendy? As far as I know, she has been to different churches before and she still does now. She married a half American, happily with kids, passionate and vigorous in everything she does... Well, why don't you guys come and check her out yourselves, cuz you'll be much more than impressed by her friendly and straight forward manner.
Remember, coming this week is a film to satisfy your curiosity about many "small big" things of the bible. Plus nice and inspiring himns and lots of fun, too. And don't just come alone, if you happen to know someone who might share the same passion, give him/ her a call. Let's hope more and more friends would join us in the YEC! Happy new year!

Sunday School YEC starting on 10/4

The YEC is resuming class on this coming Sunday(10/4). And according to our schedule, we'll pick up from Lesson 26 and the corresponding discussion questions in our booklet. I hope that after this long break everyone will make it to class well prepared since some new friends will be joining us. Whether you're a diehard member or a newcomer, just hit the books right away so that you'll find out interesting things in the scriptures of the bible to satisfy your demands for knowledge both in gospel and language learning! Enjoy your reading.
