Good night everyone,
today at the YEC was decided the next reading material. We're doing the "Characters of the Bible"; and this book will surely get you closer to the people and things mentioned in our scripture. As group order/purchase always gives more discount, I need EACH ONE of you to mail me your confirmation in order to give me an idea of the number of people who are buying this book. The price so far is set at $180, but perhaps we get it lower than that. So don't forget to let me know if you're getting a copy (a book).
Another message I'd like to give you is that the YEC will have to go through a pause again next Sunday (1/6) due to the ordination ceremony for elders, deacons, as well as other duties of the ministry. Like I said before, "pauses" occur roughly eight times a year, and we're having one early on in the beginning of 2013, so seven more to go. In other words, we're meeting once more at the YEC on 1/13.
Since 2013 is just around the corner, don't forget to list your "new" resolutions, and check the old ones, too. You're still hours away from deadline. As for me, I'll try to pray more often for the wonderful friends that I made at the YEC in 2012, each and everyone of you. Were it not for you, I would not have enjoyed so much growth and harvest. So, best wishes, all the best, good health, prosperity, and most important of all, God's blessing and guidance to all. Bye, and see you next year!

Hi folks,
There goes attached the unit 13, so check it out. Remember, we're deciding on the next book for our bible study; and your opinion can be an asset for our next step. Let's hope either Robert or Birdy shows up with all the books for us to choose from. See you all tomorrow morning AT 9:00 o'clock. Bye

YEC--real time news
My dear friends,
today we had again the pleasure of having a new guest in our meeting. John is Kerr's brother, and they're currently working for the defense department. I guess Kerr had a good time joining us in the YEC so he's bringing his brother along. I'm sure they'll be blessed by God for their good decision, and so will the rest of you.
Also, we had Jamie with us today but unfortunately she came with her nose masked. It's obvious she's been with a flu or something for a time; let's pray to God so that she gets well sooner.
Our routine schedule for 12/23 will be paused to make way for the worship on Christmas day. So those of you who wish to come will have to make it to the church at 9:30 AM. On the same day at 5:30 PM we have a potluck dinner, which means everyone brings a dish to share. And in the evening, a series of activities will take place, such as singing, plays, gospel sharing, and so on. Like I said today, church Xmases are less "commercial" than the holiday you see on TV or at restaurants. There's more to Xmas than spending money on fancy presents or fine dinners. Then what on earth is Xmas? I think it's about the joy of being redeemed (reclaimed) after a total despair, hope for the future, and a lots more. Perhaps all these meanings sound too abstract to imagine, but you can somehow translate them into your own terms, or things that fit perfectly into your life experiences. Whatever you say, I can assure you that it's anything but the kind of Xmas on TV or at department stores. In short, if you want to try the taste of the real Xmas just come along at 5:30.
Next time we meet at the YEC will be on 12/30, and by then I'll send you the next and LAST lesson of our book. As far as "what's next?", thanks to Robert and Birdy, we have many choices to pick from. And let's hope they show up with those books next time, otherwise I'll have to take care of choosing it myself (what a dilemma).
Well, I'll see you soon, bye! And merry Christmas to all!

YEC--Let's welcome a new friend
Hi guys,
we're happy to see someone new coming along. Jean had a conversation with Robert about our bible study, and a week later there she was. We also have thank Robert for his enthusiasm and willingness to help whenever he can. Jean is an art teacher and she's passionate for the bible as well as everyone in the YEC. Let's welcome her and hope she is showing up as frequently as she can.
On this coming Sunday, we're scheduled to finish the discussion of this lesson, so get ready for it then. See you all, bye.

YEC Bible Study--welcome a friend
Good night everyone,
let me introduce you to a friend that attended our meeting today. Jill saw us on the net and her passion and enthusiasm drove her right to us. We were delighted to share her company this morning; and let's hope we get to know her better with further interactions. As a matter of fact, we were supposed to stop for one time today due to Thanksgiving. As you might have already seen, we had baptism and Eucharist (communion or "holly supper") in addition to all other routines. However, due to my miss-operation, that letter of recess announcement was never sent to you through the mail server, which also resulted in a happy accident since Jill showed up at a time when we "were there". Thanks God for "letting me make such a mistake" at the right time. All this proves that He is wonderful and He makes no mistakes, glory to the Almighty.
Today we finished the discussion of the story of Lot and his escape to safety. And next week we'll proceed with part 2, the most intriguing part of the ending, which was given to you as the extra reading material. So everyone stay tuned and get ready to unveil and discover some of the secrets and backgrounds of the conflicts in the Middle East as we see nowadays.
Let's welcome our friend, Jill, one more time. And when you see her, don't forget to say hello; remember, her name is Jill.
See you all on Sunday, until next time.

YEC Unit 11--Abraham Prays
My good friends of the bible study,
we're beginning unit 11 on this coming Sunday (8/19). And let me remind you again that our meeting starts at 9:00 instead of 9:30. This will allow us more time for further discussions or after class talks. The official time to finish the bible study will be around 10:30, even though we go a little bit further from time to time. Just do your best to show up on time and get ready or preview our lessons before you come.
We had the pleasure of having two new friends among us on 8/12. One of them was Jerome Chen, who's back in Taiwan from the US for the summer break. The other one is Bob, who actually came to the bible study some time before. Perhaps some of you'll find him familiar. It's nice to have them as partners.
Another message I'd like to give you is that we'll have to pause one more time on 8/26. The election of deans will take place on that day. On 11/25 and 12/23 we'll have to stop too due to Thanksgiving and Xmas respectively. In addition, as a custom practice, the whole month of September will be dedicated to adult Sunday School workshops, taking up five Sundays in a row.
So, don't pass up the chance to attend our last meeting (8/19) in this semester, because if you do we'll see you again on 10/7, when next semester begins.

YEC Announcement-Taking a break again
My earnest fellows,
we're taking a break again on 8/5 because of the general assembly of the church. On that day will take place the election of elders according to the agenda, so the YEC will be back to work on 8/12. I know it's kind of weird to have a break every now and then but nobody would have wanted it to be like this. Case in point, Birdy suggested that we post all the breaks that we have in a year/ semester so that each one of us will know the schedule in advance. I'll do my best to bring that info to you as soon as i can. I know that some of us attend the bible study and the worship as a regular basis while some don't; but it's my desire as well as the church's that everyone can eventually make it. This is a goal that we must work hard to achieve, after all, the YEC is part of the church and not vice versa. Anyway, i hope you can understand. Our friend Cliff has been absent for quite a while taking care of some business and he told me that he would be back on the very same day that we're taking a break. What a disappointment, dude, perhaps some other day. God sees all your struggles here, and all that effort will surely pay off in different ways, so keep going as hard as you can. Next time we meet we'll see a documentary as usual and we'll have plenty of discussion and input, so you have to make it there on 8/12. Well that's all for now, see you soon and beware of the typhoon!

My YEC friends,
our buddy Birdy had the kindness to share the link to download mp3 files for the bible; and you have it right below. So those who need it may help yourselves to the site.
One more thing i almost forgot, on the very next Sunday 5/27 the church will carry out the communion as well as a ceremony of baptism; therefore, we will have to stop for one time since this will certainly lead to a joint service (9:30-11:00). The YEC will be back to our routine on 6/3. See you all then and let's remember one another in our daily prayers. Bye.

YEC fellows,
today we've had the pleasure to share the company of new friends among us. Joffrey Hsu is back in Taiwan from LA and he plans to stay for at least a couple of months. He's nice to be around and willing to help us out with new vocabulary. Following are Ching-shuan and Chong-jen (I hope they're well spelt), who are high school students, and actually they're siblings. They didn't show up until today because something kept them from joining us and besides we had Easter last week. But now they're here to stay. The last one is Elisa. She just graduated from college and is looking for her next step. Thanks God for bringing them all.
Our "official" schedule is 9:30~10:30, however, in reality we start at 9:00 and finish at around10:30. I know that the recent time change caused some of us slight inconveniences in Sunday school but this is as best as we could get. I assume that all of you are indeed punctual people, but if something "insurmountable" gets in the way I'm flexible enough to be considerate, so just take it easy.
Well, nice to see you all today, and I hope to enjoy that pleasure again next week. See yo!

YEC announcement--Schedule resolution
My dear friends,
the YEC is back to business again and I'd like to inform you of the resolution made. After gathering opinions from attendees and further advices from our pastor we came to the conclusion that the YEC will be scheduled at morning time 9:00-10:00. Like I said before, this will be to get the best of both worlds; 30 minutes later than previous time to give the lazy bones some extra "tolerance" and plenty more to do further discussions or after class interaction. Another point that the pastor mentioned was to invite everyone to stay for mandarin worship since this would be a more well-rounded Sunday school education; and in addition, we share lunch together at the church. So don't just go away after the YEC, stay and see what you get.
By the way, 4/8 is Easter, roughly overlapping our Chinese tomb sweeping day, and according to church tradition, this is gonna be a busy day. Therefore, a series of activities will be bumping into each other. On that day, there will be an early morning (6:00) Sunday service at the cemetery to commemorate the death and resurrection of Christ. Back to church at 9:30, a joint worship will be held (that means the Taiwanese and Mandarin worship will be fused as one). In the afternoon, another joint service at the cemetery will take place, this time different churches meet there. To everyone's disappointment, the YEC will have to stop again to make way. There will in total 7 joint worships in a year, so we have one done this time and six more to go. We'll be meeting again on 4/15, after all, we all have to visit the graves of our beloved ones. I hope this adjustment is not bringing you too much inconvenience. I'll see you at the YEC when we come back, stay tuned... May God comfort and soothe you in times of bereavement.

Fwd: RE: YEC English bible study--New term arriving
Hey guys, isn't that sweet? We've got greetings from a YEC fellow in LA. Perhaps few of you happen to know her, but I must say that her spirit is indeed a role model for us to follow. Check it out.

Dear Luis & YEC Friends: I'm so appreciated every time you email me the English bible study messages. I have never met a teacher like you. You care about everyone, even I was only one time have been your student. Thank you very much for the encouragement for the first email you send to me during January 2012.I have been quite busy to post the email to you until today. After I came back to the U.S. My community college start again four days later,in the beginning I selected ten units, because I got zoster, painful for more than one month on my left hand. so I canceled seven units, remained three units at this Spring semester. Now is totally healed. Thanks God! I am pretty enjoyed the Studio Classroom Chinese-English Bible Study." It Started in A Garden". I only studied chapter 1. It is an extremely difficult task to catch up your rate of progress. but I'll do my best. Gold bless you all! Esther Lin 3/27/12 --- 12/3/27 (二),龔書永 <luisk@kss.org.tw> 寫道:

YEC English bible study--New term arriving
My YEC friends,
may I remind you that we're getting back to work on this coming Sunday (4/1); and for the time being, the schedule will remain unchanged (8:30). We'll decide on that as soon as we get together again according to our last proposals even though any new input will be welcome. Any way, I'll see you then as usual, same place and same time. Take care. Bye

YEC--time correction
Brothers and sisters of the YEC,
the schedule of the adult sunday school for the whole month of march should be 11:10-12:00 in the chapel on the 1F instead of the time and place previously announced. Hopefully that those who are not attending the Mandarin worship can make it there.
My apologies for the trouble and inconvenience consequently produced. The YEC will be back again in april. See you then. Best regards.

YEC-bible study winter break
Dear YEC attendees,
let me remind you that the YEC will go through winter break during the month of March. However, a series of interesting theme discussions will be held throughout the recessed weeks. Time and place? 8:30-9:30 as usual in the classroom 310. This routine will bring together all members of the adult Sunday school and provide supplementary biblical knowledge; for example, there might have been something important about the bible itself that we did not talk about in class. It's going to be productive as well as beneficial. So, why don't you come and see?
Our new term is scheduled to begin on April 1st, and let's hope to see new faces then. As far as the reading material, we'll keep going with our current book. But I do have something new stored for you or... should I say someone new--Amanda will be taking over some parts of our bible study, and I'm sure she will be that new blood to revitalize our group. Perhaps some of you are not yet acquainted with her. Amanda actually spent some time abroad, and she's currently teaching English at Global Village (I'm not sure whether that's the correct name of the institution). Different people have different styles and gifts, and that's definitely what I can't wait to see in the YEC. Anyway, if you happen to know someone interested in English bible study, just bring them along so that we can share the good news with more people.
See you next time.

YEC bible study--real time status
YEC fellows,
what a delight for us to share the company of Emily and her husband in class; so let's thank God for bringing more new friends to us. And it's also a thrill to some people working as hard as they can to read the bible so as to gather more and more stories. This will certainly lead to the understanding of the "big picture" as well as the will of God. We had a great time having our discussion over Abram and his call from God; since this came to be the historical background for the Middle East conflicts we see nowadays. Thankfully we don't have to hurry in order to finish up unit 7; but to be honest we've been in the middle of this for quite a time. So hopefully we get to work it out as soon as possible.
BTW, let me remind you that the YEC will come to a recess in March (as usual) only to resume in April. However, that doesn't mean you are not coming to church for a whole month because the Sunday School will hold a series of interesting lectures on the four Sundays. So come and see. Another issue is our class time for the next semester. According to our church weekly (bulletin), our schedule was temporarily changed to 9:30-10:30, this was to allow easier management by the administration. Anyway, it will be subject to further change after we settle the final decision as soon as we start again in March. Chances are that we put it from 8:50-9:50 or something similar.
We'll meet again on this coming Sunday (2/26) despite some guys will be out of town. If you have any opinion, please speak up either in class or by mail; we'll try to arrange the time as close as we can get. Until next time. Emmanuel (God is with us)

YEC Bible Study--New friends arriving
Hello my fellows,
one thing I enjoy the most is the introduction of new friends of the YEC. Today Paula Ho showed up along with Irlene, and since we didn't get to know each other all I know about her is that she's preparing for some kind of English proficiency test. Let's hope she has further interaction with the rest of us in class.
Other two new comers are Emily and her husband. They are due to show up on 2/19 but I've been confirmed of their future attendance already. I'm thrilled about new people joining us and I'm sure the enthusiasm and passion of our classmates will act as a great welcome to our guests.
As far as out class schedule, last time we checked again we came to the conclusion of 8:50-9:50 from March on. So remember, we are still 3 weeks away. If you happen to know someone interested in our class just bring them up at the right time. God be with you.

YEC: Welcome Esther Lin
My friends of the YEC,
today we had the pleasure of having the first new friend among us in 2012. Esther Lin is 71 years old and she's back in Taiwan to visit her relatives for the Chinese new year holidays. Something that strikes me is that despite her age she's attending community college in California. And that reminds me of the old saying that goes "learn as you live", which is a superb living sample for all of us. In addition, she's so committed to serve God that even at this age she's still taking piano lessons in order to accompany church services. I'm sure that her energetic and positive spirit will much more than fascinate or even inspire anyone around. But sadly, she'll stay for as long as 1/25, and after that she's flying back to the US. Esther promised to return to the YEC as soon as she' back in Taiwan again. So those of you who did not show up for quite a while should really make an effort to return to the YEC lest you should miss the chance to meet extraordinary people like Esther.
Apart from her, Joe (So chu-teng) is back in Taiwan too. Some fellows may know him well while some newcomers may not. As a matter of fact, he and Cindy were the "founders of the YEC", the ones who came up with the idea of setting up an English bible study. And in time, their vision and scope for the future concerning English gospel grew from a mere seed into a twig. Let's work together to let that twig become a tree with deep roots in the community, catering to the needs of people for language learning and faith.
Another issue I'd like to communicate is now that next Sunday will be our traditional New Year eve, and undoubtedly many of us will be kind of busy; we're taking a break only to meet again on 1/29. So happy year of the dragon with anticipation.
Last but not least, I'm putting forward a survey regarding the potential time change of the YEC. Since the church will undergo a shift in the time of Sunday services in March; I was wondering if we're doing the same, too. Actually the Mandarin Chinese service will start at 11:00 from then on. On one hand, we don't want to get up too early; but on the other hand, we want to leave some time for after-class discussion or interaction, which is something most of us enjoy. So the verdict is 9:00~10:00. We get an extra half an hour to get ourselves ready for class and on top of that we have another hour (before Sunday service starts) for further discussion or even plain talk. Any suggestion or opinion is welcome. Just bring it up on facebook or during class. In any case there's still one month before we get on our way.
Well, I think it's a long English e-mail for most of you to read; and I'll leave you right here. Happy holidays. May God's glory shine upon you.
